Appearance: Her image is the icon!
Canon Point: The Originals Season 5, Episode 13 "When the Saints Go Marching In"
Background: Here!
CRAU: N/A
Personality:
From mean girl with insecurities to abuse survivor to fierce mama bear, Caroline Forbes is not to be trifled with.
Firstly, Caroline is Type-A. Now, this is quite a cliché statement, but when it comes to Caroline Forbes? It's perfectly reasonable. She is organized, diligent, bossy, and meticulous. She is also very particular. She leaves instructions. She makes color coded binders. She stress-cleans when something bothers her. She was on every committee in high school. She was a cheerleader. She was very involved with extra curricular activities. Caroline is also a busybody. This has softened overtime to be less overbearing and more situationally aware. Where once she dug up everything about the new kid Stefan Salvatore, now she helps run an internationally successful supernatural boarding school. Alaric deliberately came to her to help in founding it.
Caroline is very sure of her self and her sense of self. She knows who she is. She had tastes of "darkness" so to speak. And tastes of temptation. But, for the most part, she is very disciplined. She's been described by one of the very best vampires because she has never had a problem with cravings. She is considered Stefan's sponsor. She'd be who you'd want to mentor you as a vampire, and tries to step up when Stefan murders one of the Miss Mystic Falls contestants. Other than her first week as a vampire, Caroline has never openly fed on a human being (with her humanity on). IN juxtaposition, Stefan has had a lifelong curse and problem with taking blood. After some growing pains, Caroline because very well adjusted. With everything that happened, she was the friend that kept it together, that kept everyone's chins up. As a friend, she's encouraging, compassionate, and a good listener. She genuinely cares.
Since having children, the slightly selfish side to her has died down considerably. Her girls' happiness comes first. She has had spates of time where she is self-involved. This has been pretty massaged out of her. Unfortunately, in canon, this ends up translating to a lot of trips in order to hunt down a solution to the Merge - an ancient ritual her daughters will have to take part in when they're 21. As of this point in canon, she is still front and center at the Salvatore School.
Caroline is energetic, joyful, and effervescent. She's the best friend you can have. She's the best go-between friend when things aren't great between the other two.
She had to work through her insecurity of always being second choice that was ingrained since high school. She used to be very jealous and petty. But, when it came to her last romance with Stefan, she knew it wasn't about Elena. It was about them. She believes him to be the love of her life, her best friend.
Caroline has gone through a lot of trauma and loss. Both her mother and father are dead. Her mother, from cancer, and her father, turned. But instead of becoming a vampire, he decided to die. She has been kidnapped multiple times throughout the series run and tortured. One time, that torturer was her father, because of how he was raised: to hate vampires. This was traumatic for her because she was daddy's little girl. Even though he was absent often, she loved him.
Early on in the series when she was still human, Damon Salvatore compelled her, had a coerced relationship with her, and pushed her to do things including, but not limited to, sleeping with him, biting her, convincing her to steal/lie from/to her friends. She has grown from this. As a vampire, he has his comeuppance when she kicks him back down the hall of her school. She spends most of the series as a direct enemy, if reluctant ally to Damon but overtime she grows to see Damon as family. Damon is and will always be her brother-in-law and her Elena's husband/the father of her children. *It has been discussed with all parties in our cast that very specific outcomes in canon are being kept back.
Caroline is diplomatic. She will work with the enemy. She will compromise if need be. She is also very forgiving. See: Damon Salvatore. Stefan Salvatore, after their stints without humanity for Cade, their "Devil." Caroline also had her own stint. After her mother died of cancer, Caroline held a great amount of sadness in and decided to turn her humanity off because it was too overwhelming. Unlike most characters without their humanity, Caroline is just as pragmatic as she is with it. She hides the bodies she kills. All she wants is a year to not be reminded, not be changed, and not be hounded. But, all the characters fight that. And that's when she gets dubious. Caroline wants everyone to get what they want as long as nobody gets hurt, unless one party is doing the hurting.
Because, Caroline is smart. She's devious. She's used early on as the "blonde distraction" to distract the likes of Katherine and Klaus. She is charming, charismatic, and when she wants to be she can be very flirtatious. Like most vampires, she likes her alcohol and her coffee. She's a big fan of brown liquor and tequila. She can let loose when she wants to. She's not all plans. But, when it comes to plans? She's who you want on her side.
Caroline is loyal and fiercely protective. She also holds to a promise. She promises Elena she'll write everything down while her best friend is in a magical coma, and Caroline does. She will be there on your worst day and your best, no questions asked. She will even be there when you don't except her to be, usually with ice cream and booze. Sometimes with snacks. (Always with booze, okay.) When she's having it, she has an insatiable appetite for sex and she owns her sexuality. Outside of her time with Damon Salvatore, she's empowered. Even when she gave into her attraction to Klaus once it was on her terms.
But, she's not perfect. She's a good person but she also makes mistakes. Klaus banished her ex and killed his mother. And she slept with him. She misses that Katherine has stolen Elena's body. She "discovers" the sire bond with Stefan but doesn't take her friend's beliefs into account. (Because of her issues with Damon, but also, this is such an undermining, frustrating plot line besides.) Killing one witch killed twelve because of a spell. Being responsible for that, Caroline felt guilt. She also felt guilt for the first man she killed. She has worked at being able to hold in those bad feelings. The guilt, the disappointment.
All she wants to be is a good mother and a good headmistress. And a good friend. Whatever had she needs to put on. Caroline has worn them all.
Weaknesses/Temptations:
Temptation differs greatly for Caroline Forbes since she's had kids. Temptation is now time off or a promise to fixing the merge. It's taking a night off or a nightcap and taking off her heels at the end of the day. It's not really what it used to be. At one time Caroline found the darkness of eternal life tempting - but that was wrapped up in gross Klaus Mikaelson contradictions. In Hell, the drinks will be the most tempting thing, but Caroline has always been a woman of moderation. Temptation won't be easy. She does like her sex, but she likes knowing who she's having sex with, and priority number one will be her girls.
Weakness one will also be her girls. And after them, Elena. After her, Rafael and Landon once she learns they're members of the Salvatore School. Her friends and loved ones' well-being will also be a weakness for Caroline, too. Insecurity about being a mom, her girls not being "hers" technically, and not being around enough, are all weaknesses.
The old favorites: not living up to her mother's image, not making her proud. Her mother seeing her as a vampire and vampire only. Likewise, her father.
Not being there for her kids/dying is a weakness, too. Pain is only a weakness because it hurts, but she will endure pain. She has.
Sins:
• petty jealousy
• teenage envy
• murder: a carnival worker, 12 witches, the bodies that piled up while she turned off her humanity
• violence
• assault
• lots of premarital sex: pre-canon, Matt Donovan, Tyler Lockwood, Klaus Mikaelson, Stefan Salvatore
• lust
• lying and deceit: to everyone about being a vampire, to Klaus as a distraction, to everyone about her real feelings
• parental neglect
• wrath: she lashed out when her friends wanted her to turn her humanity back on
• betrayal: tyler lockwood
• compulsion and coercion
Powers/Abilities:
Caroline Forbes is a vampire. This means she has...
☓ enhanced speed, ontop of that, the ability to "appear" behind you/in rooms super quietly.
☓ appearing in a flash, essentially.
☓ the ability to jump really high
☓ enhanced strength
☓ enhanced senses (sight, smell, taste and especially hearing, vampires can hear conversations from across a room)
☓ when the fangs come out, her eyes go black, red-black veins protrude outward (this also happens when she's hungry)
☓ the ability to compel a human not on vervain - this is making eye contact and getting them to do something/say something/forget that anything happened whatsoever
☓ she can manipulate or enter a persons' dream state, especially when they're weakened, this is easier with humans
☓ early in the series, and through the character of lexi, it's been illustrated that some older vampires can fabricate illusions. Lexi causes Stefan to think he's been starving for years, while Damon wastes his time manipulating fog and sending a crow places. she hardly ever uses this, just making a note of it to be thorough
☓ a vampire can never age, and they heal faster from injuries
☓ her blood can also heal a human's injuries
☓ if she feeds you her blood and you die within 24 hours, you wake up in transition to become a vampire
☓ with very little training, Caroline has also taken to fighting. She does well against vampires of all ages and werewolves.
Being a vampire also means there are weaknesses...
☓ a vampire needs to be invited into a dwelling
☓ a vampire can't walk into the sunlight, but caroline has a ring courtesy of bonnie bennett that lets her walk in the sun
☓ fire, a stake through the heart, beheading, heart-removal, sunlight, and a werewolf (or hybrid) bite are all lethal to vampires.
☓ vervain weakens a vampire if ingested or injected. it also burns. (but it also keeps an original vampire from being able to compel them). when extensive amounts of vervain are in their system, they can't compel
☓ being stabbed by anything wooden is excruciating but not fatal, this is the same with wooden bullets
☓ feeding on animal blood makes a vampire weaker than say if they fed on human blood. caroline feeds on human blood from blood bags
☓ older vampires are stronger but hybrids do seem to be the exception
